A Feast of Friends, 1979
I hope you don’t mind that I post quite a lot of old photos. It is interesting to me, when I scan some of the old stuff, to see what emerges. Sometimes there are great memories, other times I can’t even remember what was going on at the time.
This is from a holiday somewhere, and I think it was 1979. Is that vague enough? Funny thing is I remember using a Canon A1 camera and a 24mm lens. Go figure.
I know two of the couples are married now, and have grown-up children. It is funny to think that, back then, such a future probably wouldn’t even have been something that they’d have envisaged. Or maybe they did, I don’t know. I was 23 then. Look at the funny clothes and the general demeanour. Does it look like 33 years ago?
I like the poetry of this photo. Of course I have thousands of photos where there is no poetry, nothing special happening at all. But in this one I can see that the personalities of each of the people come through, even if only slightly.
Maybe my personality comes through a bit, too. Or maybe the personality I had back then. Has it changed? Probably not, but then again it’s probably not for me to say…
I think that with any photograph, if you look at it closely enough and think about it a bit, it is just as much about the personality of the photographer as it is about the people in it. So you have to be fairly careful when you put photos up on the internet. They might just reveal more about you than you imagined…
