Hey, it’s not what you may think! Two of my friends have just taken down their exhibitions that were running in Melbourne over the past couple of weeks. Both were in B&W, both were of portraits. A LOT of people went through and saw both, and both drew extremely positive comments according to the gallery people. Well done, Morganna and Ashleigh.

Thing is, exhibiting is the pinnacle of photography. Sure, it is great to be in a book, but looking at a book is largely a solitary experience. With an exhibition, people make a conscious decision to come in, often with friends, and maybe discuss the work. The work is printed as the photographer intended, to the size it is intended to be looked at. Then the audience can often retire for a coffee or whatever and talk about the work further. This is the way it’s meant to be.

So, you should always try to get to exhibitions. It is a really cool thing to do and it is great for the artist to get feedback on his or her work. If you do already, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
