nancy, the wellington
‘Tis the eve of BIFB'13. Well, strictly speaking it’s not actually, but as Ash and I are heading off up to Ballarat tomorrow - which is the actual eve - in order to set up, this will have to stand in because who’s gonna write in a stupid blog when you can be checking out shows up in Ballarat?
Anyway, Nancy here will be featuring as will portraits of our other wonderful subjects. It has been a lot of fun and I don’t think that I had more fun than while photographing Nancy on the day we got this shot. I’d tried a few weeks earlier and the pictures just didn’t work - Nancy was just too self-conscious in front of the camera. I said as much to Bobbi and she suggested that, when she has a ukulele in her hands, Nancy just forgets about everything else and enters a world of her own.
And so it transpired. Nancy came along and we sat down outside under a tree and she played and sang and I must say she is rather talented. One song she did (perhaps the song she is singing above) was “Oh My Darling Clementine” - in Chinese! It was too tempting to stop at times and just listen. I hope she brings the ukulele next Tuesday, when a bunch of people from the Welly will be travelling up to Ballarat by train to view the exhibition and see how they look hung.
But for now I THINK Ash and I are ready and organized, and we’re certainly raring to go. We’ll hang the show at the Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts and then check out a few of the other shows. We’re staying up there overnight and will then hook up with family and friends on Saturday and try to catch the official opening that night.
Sounds like a lot of fun.
